Two weeks ago two Israeli soldiers were killed near the Israel-Gaza border. Overnight Friday four Israeli air-strikes targeted near the central town Khan Younis. A fifth strike rocked Gaza City.

Major Eliraz Peretz, deputy commander of the Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion, who was a resident of the settlement Eli was killed.

The other Israeli fatality was Staff-Sergeant Ilan Sviatkovsky of Rishon Lezian.

The IDF prior to the attack released a statement saying they would retaliate ‘at the appropriate time.’

According to the Arabs, at least one missile was fired at a Hamas naval police outpost in Rafah.

The Israel security agency Shin Bet has released a report which shows increased attacks from Gaza increased in March.

125 attacks were recorded last month, compared to 53 in February,

In veiled phrasing the Shin Bet report indicated Israel-U.S. tensions inspired the upsurge. They said the tension over Jerusalem, the increase in violence at the Gaza border, and the renewed rocket fire from the Gaza Strip as lying behind the increase in numbers.

While attacks were experienced in all regions, Shin Bet said 27 attacks were in Jerusalem, compared to 13 in February. They counted stone-throwing as well as rocket launching under the word ‘attack.’

Three Israelis were killed as a direct result of attacks from Gaza.

As well as the two soldiers, Thai migrant laborer Manee Singmueangphon, was killed by a rocket in Netiv Ha’asara.

In the West Bank and the Jerusalem area, 89 attacks were noted, including three explosive devices, five shooting attacks, two stone-throwing incidents and 79 cases of firebombs being thrown.
