Netanyahu, “The Bible is The Book of Books!”

Bibi Netanyahu and sons Avner & Elad praying

21st April, 2010

I’ve had something of a struggle this week, my computer programs have been a mess, my work-rate has been frustrated. I’ve analyzed hundreds of stories, many extremely important ones.

But for me, in the midst of Iranian nuclear plans and their threats to America (which makes it an issue now!) or volcanic ash and the disruption to international travel, and even activity on the Israel-Lebanon border, one story stands out as important for so many different reasons.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara beamed with pride as their son Elad won third place in the World Bible Quiz Tuesday.

Few people know that success in knowing the Bible is a tradition within the Netanyahu family. Elad recently won the Israel National competition and continued in the footsteps of Netanyahu’s maternal uncle, Hagi Ben Artzi, who, like his two brothers Amatzia and Matanya, is a past winner of the National Bible Championship.

I can only imagine the pounding pride in the heart of the prime minister who was at the final as a father and as the VIP presenting the trophies.

In this singular moment as far as I’m concerned, Netanyahu was lifted by divine pleasure to a place of significance in the history of his people to be a witness to the world.

He who was rejected and garbaged not so long ago at the World’s most powerful (and probably pompous) address, emerged as acceptable in the Most High Place, and he took that place with great humility and gifted eloquence.

He underlined the importance and values of the Bible when he awarded the first prize to Or Ashuel, a 17 year-old student at the Kfar Saba Girls’ School. Or won, beating finalists from Israel, America and Australia.

Or and first runner up Elad Nachshon (De Shalit High School) and third placed Avner Netanyahu are all Israelis. (Which says something about the great riches in that Land and in this People).

Proud Dad

Netanyahu was not beyond showing his excitement. He expressed his personal thrill at his son’s participation in the event. He was a dad, proud of his son and happy to show it, even in such a public place. Well done, Bibi!

“David Ben-Gurion (former Israel prime minister) said that the foundation of our existence here (in Israel), is the Bible. I was brought up learning the Bible; so were my brothers. The Bible is again becoming the Book of Books for all of Israel,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said.

Where else does a national leader make such a wonderful, inspirational claim? He said, ‘The Bible is again becoming the Book of Books for all Israel.’ (Seriously, if what he is saying is true, Iran and anyone else will need much more than a nuclear arsenal to beat them!)

I don’t know about you, but this ‘witness’ by the Israeli leader overwhelms me. At a time when most of those leaders, who sit in high places, are ignoring the Word of God and seeking votes and approval in all the wrong places, this man and this moment shines like a David and Goliath warning. (Imagine attacking Israel when all you’ve got going for you is the prince of this world?)

Netanyahu took the opportunity to also promote his plan for a Bible Quiz for Adults. The competition will return after 29 years shutdown and will be staged during Hanukkah.

God help any ‘free country’ for declaring such an event at senior government level. There would be serious and swift litigation from atheists, non-believers and malcontents galore not to mention the raving tirades from the left-wing media!

But Netanyahu used his slingshot of faith to score a giant victory for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

“The Bible is the basis for the existence of the People of Israel and the State of Israel. Be blessed, and bring a light to the nations,” he told the participants, with a wink and a nod to the winner. (Her name Or means ‘light’ in Hebrew).

You can rave on all you like about this leader or that right now, but as far as I can tell only one has the guts to stand against the powers of darkness.

Netanyahu has declared the strength of his nation by saying ‘the Bible is the basis for the existence of the People of Israel.’ (What do you think is the basis of yours?)

OK Presidents, prime ministers, dictators and terrorists….. where or what is the strength you believe in? It’s laughable or cry-able really?

“Choose this day who you will serve!” Netanyahu has clearly announced his choice and I for one applaud him for it.

One Response to “Netanyahu, “The Bible is The Book of Books!””

  1. Liane Redford says:

Hi Ron and Yvonne, I too, just thank God for this recognition of our Lords word. Netanyahu actually recognizes that the Jewish Nation is there because of Gods Word and claims it to be a standard to be sought after and known. Hooray
Thanks for these bits of info, if people aren’t encouraged by this, I would wonder who is their joy.
