Casting Ezekiel 38: “Prepare Yourself!”

My radar was activated this week when Iranian cleric Ayatollah Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi called for the creation of a “Greater Iran.” He announced “The Greater Iran” would rule over the entire Middle East and Central Asia. To add to the significance he declared such an event would herald the coming of the Mahdi, Islam’s highly anticipated messiah.

I have written extensively in the past about al-Mahdi. The hadiths say he will appear in the Last Days in the company of Isa (the Muslim version of Jesus) and conduct jihad (meaning warfare for Allah). Through their victory, the Mahdi will usher in a new era of the Islamic Caliphate, which they believe will eventually cover the entire world.

Kharrazi leads an Iranian political party, Hizbullah, meaning ‘party of God.’ While many discard his comments as radical, a growing number of Iranian hardliners are more than comfortable with the plan. He proposes a Greater Iran that would stretch from Afghanistan to Israel, bringing about the destruction of the Jewish state.

“The Islamic United States will be an introduction to the formation of the global village of the oppressed and that will be a prelude to the single global rule of the Mahdi,” an Iranian newspaper reported.

Russia

In the midst of these grandiose plans, the ever-increasing presence of Russia is very aggressively involved.

While Mrs Hilary Clinton, the US Secretary of State has been trumpeting her hopes for ‘biting sanctions’ to be imposed upon Iran, Russia has been impeding any quick implementation.

Russia is openly ambitious about being involved in the Iranian nuclear plans. They have also entered into agreements to provide Syria with state-of-the-art weapons as well as the latest fighter jets.

“The sale of these weapons does not contribute to building an atmosphere of peace,” said the Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. His response came after Mikhail Dmitriyev, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, said Russia would sell MiG-29 fighter jets, Pantsyr short-range air defense systems and armored vehicles to Syria.

The Daily Star, Lebanon, reported: “From Russia’s perspective, selling MiG-29 fighter planes, short-range surface-to-air missiles for air defense and anti-tank weapons to Damascus signifies the return of Russia to the Middle East. Russia clearly wants a major role here, but the weapons actually stand as a secondary priority to hydrocarbon energy. This is about oil, about pipelines in Turkey, for example, and in a wider sense about reclaiming a foothold in the regional energy game after the loss of influence following the collapse of the Soviet Union. “
Throw in the growing relationship Iran enjoys with Turkey, Brazil, Iraq and Syria and their deployment through terror groups Hizbullah, Hamas, the Moslem Brotherhood and now al Qaida and the picture of The Greater Israel begins to look very Ezekiel 38.

“Prepare Yourself!”

While the prophet identifies the nations who will come against Israel so dramatically, he shares a verse which bible-believers should take time to study and apply.

“Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your companies that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them.” (Ezekiel 38: 7)

“Prepare yourself” – now there’s a thought!
