It may be helpful to remind the EU that Israel is not a colony of any country in Europe and not subject to its authority. It may also be helpful to remind EU counties that when Israel did propose Palestinian sovereignty for East Jerusalem during the Camp David Talks of 2000, PA leader Yasser Arafat rejected it on the grounds that Israel quite correctly refused Palestinian demands for the “right of return” for all Palestinian refugees and their descendents, PA code language for the demographic destruction of Israel. Today the PA continues to demand the “right of return” as a core preconditon for “peace”.
Jerusalem has been a city with a Jewish majority since 1856. It has only been when Jerusalem has been under Jewish sovereignty that it has been a capital city.
Germany, a core member of the EU fought, justly for years to re-unite divided Berlin yet Germany along with other EU members demands for Israel’s capital city the very thing they rejected on their home soil.
If divided or shared sovereignty of Jerusalem could achieve a genuine peace between Israel, the Palestinians and the Arab world it may be worth considering. However under the current set of realities this is a pipe dream and the EU’s attempts at hypocritical interference on this matter should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
If EU countries wish to allow themselves to subsumed by Islamists, that’s their business. Any European with a sense of history should know the heavy price involved in appeasement to fanatics that Europe paid in WWII. The Jewish people in Europe paid the ultimate price for that appeasement. Israel cannot afford to expose its people to appeasing the shrill calls of the Palestinians and their toothless European toady supporters who are always ready to indulge in Israel bashing but do and say nothing to oppose the persecution of Christians throughout the Middle East and under PA rule.
After all no good European wants to be seen as being Islamophobic.
