The United Nations, Israel and Prophecy

Ban Ki-moon

The headline is bouncing around the world today: “UN Tells Israel to Surrender Immediately.” Israel National News first used it and others have picked it up and spread it to the rest of the world (or at least to those who have the wisdom to understand!)

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has made it clear the United Nations expects Israel to ‘surrender to internationally-backed Arab demands that it relinquish all claims to the Jews’ biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria and half of their ancient capital of Jerusalem,” says the Israel National News report.

Those of us who see the modern day Israel as the epicenter of the world know that these events must be. The Bible is never caught by surprise. “Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs.’ (Psalm 74: 4)

The UN has indeed set up their own standards and today the American Obama administration walks with them step by step. The present campaign in Libya is a case in point. President Barak Obama did not consult the US Congress before joining the fighting. Instead he consulted with the Arab League and an international coalition.

Obama has never declared war on Libyan dictator Gaddafi, instead he authorised American action under the authority of UN resolution 1973.

In keeping with his foreign policy, the U.S.A continues to serve on the UN Human Rights Council, a group renowned for targeting Israel as an instigator of crimes against humanity.

Last week Tavoh Lazaroff (Jerusalem Post) made this comment: “The US’s three-year term on the council does not expire until May 2012. With May 2011 elections still being held for 15 seats on the 47-member body, the US does not need to announce its plans for a second term until next year. On Wednesday, however, in a show of support for the council, the US State Department spokesman Mark Toner hailed the “landmark achievements” of the UNHRC in its 16th session, which ended last Friday.

On the other hand Foxnews published this comment on March 31: The State Department says the United Nations’ Human Rights Council displays a “biased disproportionate focus on Israel,” but still announced Wednesday that the United States will seek election to a second three-year term of membership on the panel.

The Israel National News reported: “Many within Israel are urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop playing the diplomatic game by the Arab world’s rules, and to instead begin insisting that the UN approach the peace process from the viewpoint that the West Bank and Jerusalem are disputed territories, where Jews have just as much, if not more, claim than local Palestinian Arabs.”

Then this: “But it is likely too late for that. And if it comes down to the UN General Assembly recognizing “Palestine,” Israel may be forced into desperate action.”

A crisis is looming. I’m reminded of how the Lord encouraged Israel. “Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes.” (Proverbs 3:25)

Jesus said this:“For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side.” (Luke 19:43) And of course: “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near.” (Luke 21:20)

Events are falling into place. There are no surprises just the faithful fulfillment of prophecy. There will be confusion, chaos and panic for those who do not know and understand the wisdom in the Word. For those who know the Lord, there will always be peace, triumph and faith in the One who knows the end from the beginning.
