Slaves, in ancient times

By Ron Ross
‘The devil comes to steal. kill, maim and destroy but Jesus came to give us life, and that life more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

This Bible verse highlights reality that must cause grave concern in our day. I peruse the international news daily to be informed of ‘signs of the times.’ This week I have uncovered powerful reasons to maintain a healthy prayer life and to seek wisdom.

Consider the following:
A sharia court in Saudi Arabia sentenced a woman accused of witchcraft to beheading by a sword. A Jihad watch report said, “There are some unpleasant details, the ‘witch’ apparently, suffered as the beheading was performed gradually, in three steps.”

Still in Saudi Arabia Amnesty International has urged King Abdullah to commute amputation sentenced handed down on six men convicted of highway robbery. The sentences to chop off the right hands and left feet of the six Saudis is currently before the Supreme Court for approval and could be carried out within days if ratified by the king, the London-based group said on Friday.
It said they were forced to confess.

Horrific
Last week the Press Trust of India headlined “Pakistani Taliban fighters cut the beasts of a woman who was breastfeeding her child. They then asked other women to eat the pieces.

“Bangladesh man admits cutting off wife’s fingers,” was a headline December 15 on BBC News.
Apparently human rights groups in Bangladesh demanded a severe punishment for the husband who attacked his wife because she pursued higher education without his permission.

When attempts are made to publicize these offensive and dare I say, satanic standards, there is a fear that the reports are too shocking and should be considered unpalatable for squeamish audiences.

‘The truth will set you free’ is the standard by which we should all live. Shoving these events under the carpet only delays the day they arrive much closer to home.

In the meantime let’s be people of prayer. Stand in the gap for the victims. Where possible reach out to the darkness and seek to bring the light of Christ where ever you can.
